A New Beginning

This site was initially created as a semi-anonymous blog, where I, without a real public identity could post whatever I wanted without consequence. Well, my life has taken a bit of an unexpected turn, and privacy is no longer possible.

Once on the internet, content can almost never be hidden away again. I won't delete my old posts, but they'll be archived under /archive with the disclaimer that those old musings no longer represent my current views & does not intend to defame. I've deleted some posts but honestly there shouldn't be anything too outrageous that anyone would wanna look into. For personal posts, I'll be migrating to post on a new anonymous domain. Obviously not gonna link it.

A Brief History

The original duti.site was started sometime in 2016 by my then senior, Benjamin Hollon at Dalat International School (Penang, Malaysia). It had a few things, namely an HTML tutorial, a few games, and wizard.css — something akin to Bootstrap but with a minimalist aesthetic.

While I had learned a bit of Scratch and some weird magnetic tape robotic thing before, this was where I learned web programming, and also the beginning of the time I had unfettered internet access.

Of course, being the Chūnibyō kids we were (2nd year of middle school), there was also a projectwd.duti.site, which stood for "Project World Domination" 🤦. Memories are a bit fuzzy about exactly what we did, but I remember learning about the dark web via Tor, sending spoofed emails (SPF/DKIM was rarely seen back then), and various tidbits of Batch to remotely shut down library computers. I created my first GitHub account around that time, but the username has been lost to time.

Sometime in 2018, the domain expires, and given that GitHub's Education pack allowed you to get a free .me or .site domain, I snatched it up, but didn't actually do anything with it... It ended up in the hands of squatters shortly after.

At some point, a family member wanted to start an internet business with a decently short and memorable domain name. I bought the domain duti.dev since .site wasn't available and dev was well priced. It was gonna be a site to sell organic vegetables from my grandparent's village, but considering I wouldn't be available as tech support for most of the year, they ended up just using Google Forms instead.

Starting in 2023, I wrote a few blogs on random things I encountered with Linux. Somehow I accidentally deleted the GitHub repository for the blog in 2025 with no local backups. Most of the content was unrecoverable, though some copies live on in Cardiff University's Discord in the form of a PDF (e.g. a tutorial on how to get non-Ubuntu Linuxes connected to eduroam). Migrated to gozer and started doing proper backups from then on :)

I got into a bit of trouble with earlier drafts on the post criticizing HackEurope. Lots of professional connections reached out and warned me of burning bridges & inappropriate language. I stopped posting as much since, as I hate having to consider every word and how I may be perceived as a result. I missed being a random anonymous person from a 3rd world country where internet laws don't apply and nobody could find me anyways.

So What Now?

I suppose I'll start treating this site like I do LinkedIn. A somewhat official place to put corporatized posts.
